MRC Hall Location & How to Reach the Venue

The hall sits in MRC Nagar, next to Mandaveli and close to Mylapore and Santhome . It's on a main road, so buses, taxis, and autos reach it easily.

Muhurtham mornings can be busy, so give guests extra time. To check dates, call +91 44 2499 2242, the number Marriage Colours lists.

What Makes MRC Hall a Popular Chennai Wedding Venue?

The building itself is a HUGE part of the appeal.

Designed by Architects Jeevan V and Benny Kuriakose, the facade borrows from the Senate House, Chepauk Palace, and old Chettinad mansions.

Cast-iron railings, stone cladding, and broad verandahs complete the look.

The hall is named for Mayor Ramanathan Chettiar, who was elected Mayor of Madras in 1950

Guests seem to agree. Justdial's summary of its 4,772 ratings praises the spacious, well-kept hall, the ample parking with valet service, and the clean premises. The main complaints are about management, especially getting deposits back during the pandemic. One reviewer theme is that the venue isn't pet-friendly (Justdial).

MRC Hall Capacity, Halls & Wedding Facilities

Valliammai Hall

Valliammai is the main hall with up to 1,000 seated and 1,200 floating,

That said, some directories mention a lower number. For instance, WeddingBazaar shows 450 seated and 675 floating. Hall names sometimes get swapped between listings, so ask which hall a quote covers.

Plan around your seated count, not your total invite list. A hall packed near its limit slows down dining and makes group portraits harder.

Ramaswamy Hall

The smaller hall suits engagements, rituals, and mid-size receptions. Wedding.net lists 500 seated. Weddingz reports 300 seated and 500 at most for its "Hall 1."

MRC Hall Parking, Rooms & Guest Facilities

MRC Hall parking holds up to 150 cars, while VenueBookingz says 200.

Mandap adds room for 100 bikes and valet service. Room counts differ too: 6 free rooms per hall (Wedding.net), 8 AC rooms (Marriage Colours), or 15 per VenueBookingz reviewers.

The venue itself comes with lift access, wheelchair access and power backup. However, you should keep in mind that late-night music and overnight events aren't allowed.

MRC Hall Wedding Cost, Catering & Decoration

How Much Does a Wedding at MRC Hall Cost?

Wedding.net lists rent of ₹8,85,000 a day for Valliammai and ₹7,08,000 for Ramaswamy. Both include 18% GST and six rooms, but no food or decor.

Payment terms conflict. Wedding.net says full rent is due at booking, with no refund but a transfer to a later date. VenueBookingz says 50% confirms the booking.

When it comes to matter like deposits, it’s essential that you get every term in writing.

We’d also recommend you ask about setup access, power for decor lighting, and the hard end time for the day.

Planning a Wedding at MRC Hall

The venue doesn't provide decor, but you can bring any decorator you feel works for you.

Tamil & South Indian Weddings at MRC Hall

Traditional Tamil weddings suit MRC well. The pure vegetarian rule matches traditional meals, and Weddingz says Havan is allowed. Marriage Colours' portfolio includes Iyer and Brahmin weddings in both halls.

Chettinad couples may enjoy the setting too, since the architects took cues from old Chettinad mansions. Rituals like Kashi Yatra, Oonjal, and Muhurtham each need their own space, so map them with your priest and photographer.

Weddingz says overnight events aren't allowed, so plan to finish early. Here is an illustrative schedule, not a venue rule.

Why MRC Hall Needs an Experienced Wedding Photographer

This is a large hall with a tight ritual schedule and mixed lighting. The architects designed for natural light and good ceiling height.

That looks lovely, but flash mounted on a camera reaches a high ceiling poorly. Experienced teams bring off-camera lighting and talk to the decorator early.

That's our professional advice, not a venue rule. HiQ's own venue guide notes MRC's clear sightlines and organized spaces.

Candid & Traditional Photography at MRC Hall

A Tamil wedding needs both kinds of coverage. Traditional photography records every ritual in order, so elders and future generations can see who stood where and what was said.

Candid photography catches everything between the rituals: cousins laughing, an aunt wiping a tear, children racing along the galleries. At a hall this size, a small team can miss one or the other, so ask how the work will be divided.

Plan Your Couple Portraits Around the Venue

The arched verandahs, stone walls, and cast-iron railings make calm backdrops away from the crowd. Set aside 15 to 20 minutes before the rituals, when everyone is fresh.

Build Enough Time for Family & Group Portraits

Write your group list in advance and share it with your photographer. Ask elders to gather early. The stage makes large groups easier to arrange.

Don't Let Photography Interrupt the Wedding

Rituals run on a clock. Let the team work from the sides with long lenses instead of pausing ceremonies for repeat shots. The unposed pictures are usually the ones families keep.

For over 20 years, HiQ Weddings has photographed thousands of couples

Our approach is simple. We watch, we anticipate, and we preserve: the quiet look between parents, the laugh before the muhurtham, the blessing of elders.

Years from now, the flowers will be forgotten and the menu will blur.

What remains is the look on your father's face as the thaali is tied, and the way your grandmother held your hands afterward.

Those frames matter most.
